Powerful horse back ride

Game of the week:

Game of the week time again.

๐ŸดThis time it's the 'powerful horse back ride'

This is what Dr Solter calls a contingency game, where children's behaviour has a tangible affect on your behaviour.

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ It's such an incredible way to deeply connect but also give children some power in a world where they mostly feel powerless. We tell them where to go, what to do, we get impatient and don't always give them the choice they want or time to finish their play etc etc. This of course has to be this way in many instances, however, there are beautiful games you can play to heal these feelings of frustration and powerlessness they feel.

๐Ÿ‘ The more you play in this way the more you will notice their invitations to play the games they need.

'In this game your child pretends to be a horse back rider and they get to control, you, the horse. If they tap the left shoulder you turn left, the right shoulder and you turn right. If they tap your head you go forward, if they kick your bottom (gently) you go back. Your job is to obey and move with gusto. This game fills their power cup so fully it means that they are more co-operative at other times. The key to it working is their laughter.'

The laughter that's expelled in this game indicates how vital it is we make time for this type of game. If you can't have them on your back invent a version that you can manage.

If you can make time for just 10 minutes you will notice deeper connection and hence more willingness and co-operation.

Parenting can be the way you imagined, we just need to learn to play. ๐Ÿ’•
