A warm welcome to Golden Spirals Parent and Child Group
I will be leading the session you can read more about me on Flourishing Children. I have previously led a parent and child group and love the beautiful, calm, nurturing space it provides for both adults and children. I love sharing my knowledge with parents and coming together in this very nourishing manner.
Golden Spirals is a warm and nourishing environment for children and their parents/carers from birth up to the age of 3 1/2 years.
The session will run on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm in the gorgeous new Community Room at the new Library and Picturehouse in West Norwood.
The cost is £6 per session payable half termly. Please fill out the BOOKING FORM. (Next term starts the 30th April)
Address: Norwood High St, West Norwood, London SE27 9JU
The nearest overground is West Norwood and the buses 68, 196, 315,432,468,690 stop nearby.
The Community Room is down the stairs and past the library. Please can you leave your buggies at the top of the stairs before you come down towards the library. I will greet you in the community room. It would be lovely if you can bring along some cosy slippers to wear in the room instead of shoes.
Sessions at Golden Spirals begin with a creative playtime where the children can enjoy simple play materials.
Other activities include seasonal crafts, songs and verses and a puppet show.
A freshly cooked snack and hot drink are provided.
Please email Rebecca at email@example.com for any questions about the session. Children must be accompanied by parents/carers at all times.
Golden Spirals Vision
Golden Spirals is not a typical parent and child group. The focus is on the parent. It recognises how difficult parenthood can be and offers a safe, non- judgemental supportive space.
Parenting issues are welcomed and shared with an understanding of gentle parenting methods.
It a holistic experience where healthy social, emotional, physical and nutritional approaches are shared.
It is Waldorf Inspired and believes that children’s learning flourishes in a calm, peaceful, predictable, familiar and unhurried environment.
What to expect
Each week will have the same rhythm.
The children begin with some free play. During this time parents are engaged in an adult craft activity. Please note this is not aimed at the children. I would encourage parents to allow (where possible) child-initiated and self-directed play while we do our crafts.
Children may of course at some point need your attention. If it is to support them in a disagreement I would encourage you to quietly go over and connect with them. Often this is enough to change the situation. In our session I believe that children always have the intention to do what is right, but when a need is not being met or they have accumulated stress, then it can be difficult to access those parts. It is our job to support them in a calm thoughtful manner. I would ask that you would consider not using loud voices, NO’s and labelling children where possible.
During song and circle time I encourage parents/caregivers to participate fully, sing along, perform the actions to the songs etc. Childlren are not expected to join in but will follow your lead. I would also encourage you not to force your child to say hello, goodbye, sorry or thank you. They will learn from our example.
We set the tempo of the space through our interactions. Please help me maintain a quiet and calm space. Please be mindful of the volume and topics of conversations.
Please not it is a mobile free zone, a time to escape the outside world and be present and mindful.
Please do not bring any toys into the session.
